| Santa Claus reaches pets - MySanAntonio Posted: 25 Dec 2010 05:38 AM PST PICKAWAY COUNTY - The homeless pets at the Wright-Poling Dog Shelter got a Christmas delivery of their own this week thanks to donations organized through the local Partners For Paws group. Now in its fourth year, the Operation: Santa Paws collection drive equaled last year's take with an estimated $1,000 in food, toys and supplies donated to the shelter. "Even though the number of donations were down, there were more high-dollar items donated this year, so it all balanced out," said Arron Kerns, Partners For Paws volunteer. "I'm very pleased, and they were pleased out there at the dog shelter, too." Mark Cobb, Pickaway County dog warden, said it is nice to know people want to get involved in caring for animals without a home. "It costs a lot of money to take care of just one dog, so we definitely appreciate everything people donate for the dogs here at the shelter," Cobb said. Donations were accepted through collection bins at businesses throughout the county, including PBS Animal Health, Jones Groom Room, Scioto Valley Coffee, Tractor Supply, Carnival Foods, Circleville Pet Services and Drs. Shaw, Ely & Dubos, General Dentistry. Cobb said donations for the shelter are welcomed throughout the year. Kerns said he appreciates the businesses who collect donations for the drive and the citizens of Circleville and Pickaway County who donate. "Really, this is their donation drive," he said. "They're the ones who make this possible by contributing to the cause."
