Pugs, pets and Vader win Super Bowl ads - Birmingham Business Journal

Super Bowl viewers chimed in with their Super Bowl commercial favorites this year, and for the first time in 22 years, it's a tie.

USA Today's annual Super Bowl Ad Meter found Bud Light and Doritos tied for the favorite commercial.

The volunteers charted their second-by-second reactions to all the game's commercials using hand-held meters to register how much they liked or disliked what they were seeing.

A first quarter Doritos ad where a pug breaks down a glass door on top of a boyfriend who was teasing it with chips, and a fourth quarter Bud Light ad with a dog sitter who puts the pooches to work each registered 8.35 out of a possible score of 10.

The top five ads and their scores, according to USA Today's Super Bowl Ad Meter:

  • Bud Light's "dog sitter" (8.35)
  • Doritos' "dog's revenge" (8.35)
  • Volkswagen's "Darth Vader starts 2012 Passat" (7.95)
  • Doritos' "house sitter brings back grandpa from the ashes" (7.68)
  • Pepsi Max's "love hurts with bad girlfriend" (7.56)

Gannett Co. Inc.'s (NYSE: GC) USA Today has posted all the results, and videos of the Super Bowl ads, here.

The Difference Between Us and Our Pets - Associated Content

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 08:38 PM PST

The difference between humans and animals is not what most may think. The ability to reason! While animals mainly react based on instincts, humans are also instinctive. Think about the quick reflexes you may have when a
ball is heading straight toward your face. There's not much processing thought that needs to transpire for one to figure out that they need to duck and duck quickly. What about that burning feeling on your neck when someone is starring at you and it makes you suddenly turn your head, right in the direction of the spectator.

Humans have the capacity to reason and think logically. Well, studies have clearly proven that so do some animals, such as monkeys. Dogs, for instance are also said to have the thinking capacity of a three year old child. So what is the main difference between us and our pets? Is there even a main difference or perhaps an array of mainy factors? Perhaps the difference between us and our pets is more simple than what it's cracked up to be.
