| Pets of the Week: Meredith and Avery - Kansas City Star Posted: Meredith Age: Adult Breed: German shepherd/Borzoi mix Gender: Female Description: This sweet, older gal seems to love everyone she meets. From what we can tell, she's OK with other dogs and may be fine with cats, too. We haven't had a chance to really test her with cats yet but can't imagine there being problems. If you have cats, we can do an introduction when you visit Meredith at our shelter. Meredith's favorite thing in the world is blankets. She love to cuddle up with her blanket and will dance when she gets a new one here at the shelter. Come meet this amazing girl today to see if you can provide her with the forever home she deserves. Avery Age: Young Breed: Bengal Domestic medium hair-white mix Gender: Female Description: If you didn't see her cute little kitty face, you might mistake Avery for a rabbit. Her fur feels exactly like one, so soft and lush. But make no mistake ... she's all kitten. Sweet, lovable and playful as can be. This youngster will provide you many hours of fun and entertainment. Come and see Avery, today. Shelter information: Halfway Home Pet Adoptions receives animals from the Kansas City Animal Health and Public Safety Division and from public dropoff. Because it operates as the Kansas City pound, it does not decline animals from city residents. The euthanasia rate is high as the shelter must make room for new arrivals on a daily basis. The shelter, at 4400 Raytown Road, is open from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The phone number is 816-921-0201. Or go to www.petshalfwayhome.com. | Pets Sharing Office Space at Humane Society - KELOLAND TV Posted: SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is seeing another spike in unwanted pets and is running low on food with all of the extra mouths to feed. The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is full. Not just full, but overflowing with pets. "We usually run somewhere around 200 to 300. Right now we're closer to the 300 mark." Humane Society Executive Director Kori Baade said. The Humane Society has taken in 74 new animals over just the past four days. "All of us have pets in our offices and pets in the back and pets in another building so we're using all the space we can right now," Baade said. Two of the new arrivals can't wait to find a new home. Millie's found a new, temporary home in the retail aisle. Dogs are living in the cat reception room, while many of the cats mingle in their own home-away-from-home. As you can imagine, keeping all of these extra mouths fed is taking a huge chunk out of the Humane Society's food supply, which is why they're sending out an S.O.S for help. "Right now, we're really limited on our food supply. We have about a week's worth left," Baade said. So they're asking the public to donate dog or cat food because the Humane Society expects numbers to go up even more since many several nearby shelters are full. "We're an open admission shelter so that means we take anything. We never turn anything away," Baade said. They will always find room for another pet, no matter how old or young they may be.
